The mission of the Society of St. Vincent de Paul is to grow in personal sanctification through service to the poor. At our 1217 Newcastle St., Brunswick, Glynn County location, Vincentian volunteers serve through the following ministries:
Assistance Program – SVDP volunteers meet with clients who need financial assistance with past due utility bills to avoid having their power or water cut off. In addition to paying part or all of the delinquent bill, volunteers counsel clients on budgeting, job search assistance, energy conservation and other relevant topics. SVDP managers also provide prescription assistance to clients who cannot afford to pay for necessary medical prescriptions.
Food Pantry – SVDP volunteers run a food pantry for families in need, doing everything from picking up food from donors or Second Harvest, packing bags of food and distributing this food at the store to the families we serve.
Thrift Store – SVDP volunteers organize and price all of the donated clothing and household items, and provide welcoming customer service to our thrift store shoppers. We also provide clothing vouchers for the indigent.
The donations from our monthly SVDP collection and the thrift store revenue provide the resources for the pantry and the assistance programs.
SVDP has only three part time paid staff and relies on over 50 volunteers to perform our ministries. If you would like to be a part of this ministry, please contact Martha Eckert through the parish office at (912) 265-3249 or stop by the SVdP Thrift Store located at 1217 Newcastle Street to fill out a volunteer application.
